PRESS RELEASE

Three Iranian hostages who were captives of Somalian pirates since March 2015 have been released and are heading to home via Addis Ababa today, August 21, 2020. The Government of Ethiopia, the States of Somaliland and UN Somalia have rendered remarkable support in this humanitarian issue. While several attempts of Iranian governments, Iranian and International NGOs have failed to get them freed during these years, they finally have been released in this week on the state of Galmadug –Somalia.

These three men are the last of the crew of the Iranian fishing vessel FV Siraj, which was captured by pirates since 2015.

The Embassy of I.R of Iran to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to AU congratulates to these brave Iranians, their families and the whole Iranian Nation. It also sincerely appreciates all who have played a key role to free these Iranians and facilitate their safe and sound return to home.
